Training Services

 

Birchwood Environmental Management Inc. offers a variety of training courses to meet your certification needs. All our courses are based on informal workshops where course participants are encouraged to get involved in discussions and in completing small workgroup assignments. The following courses are currently being offered, but we are very flexible regarding your training needs. If these courses do not exactly meet your needs, let us know and we can tailor either the course content or its length as required.

Introduction to EMS Workshops

 We offer short introductory workshops to management personnel designed to answer these questions:

  • What is an Environmental Management System?
  • What are the costs and benefits of implementing an EMS?
  • Should we integrate EMS with our Health and Safety, or Quality management systems?

Introduction to OHSAS 18001

 With the development of CSA Z1000 and ANSI Z.10, Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems are becoming more common in the workplace. The British Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series 18001 document is gaining popularity with companies now becoming certified. We offer a two-day introductory course on OHSMS that will provide participants with an overview of the OHSAS 18001 document, with an emphasis on the following key information:

  • OHSAS 18001 background and definitions
  • Detailed overview of system elements of OHSAS 18001
  • Overview of occupational health & safety legislation, including Bill C-45 amendments to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Outline of acceptable hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control techniques
  • Practical exercises relating to OH&S issues
  • An update / news about the development of the new ISO standard for health and safety management
  • The importance of safety culture within your organization; and, Integration of OHSMS with EMS

Forest Worker Training

 We have established a two-day training program for forest workers that meets the SFI¨ Objective 8 requirements to ãbroaden the practice of sustainable forestry by cooperating with forest landowners, wood producers, consulting foresters and Program Participantsâ employees who have responsibility in wood procurement and landowner assistance programs.ä For more information on this program, click here.

Internal Auditor Training All our auditor courses use ISO 19011 as the basis for instruction. Using a combination of short presentations, workgroup assignments and some role-playing, we offer the following options:

One day Principles of Internal Auditing

Two day Internal Auditor Course

Four day Lead Auditor Course

Five day Lead Auditor Course (3 days in classroom and 2 days of actual auditing)
